Valdosta, GA – Police and Fire Crews Injured in Workplace Accident on Madison Hwy
Valdosta, GA (July 12, 2021) – Around 4 p.m. on Monday, July 12, a workplace accident took place on the Madison Highway around the area of Dampier Street.
Police departments received calls about a power line down and both police and fire crews responded to the area along the Madison Highway. There, they discovered that a power line was hanging low in the area. While the crews were working the scene, a truck drove through the area, striking the line and causing it to snap and whip around, striking several of the workers.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Three firefighters and one officer at the scene were injured and taken to South Georgia Medical Center. One of the firefighters was severely injured and had to have their leg amputated. The conditions of the other victims are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
