Valdosta, GA – Driver That Jumped Tow Truck Is Recovering From Injuries
Valdosta, GA – (June 7, 2023) – UPDATE: The driver of a car that soared through the air in an astonishing leap over a tow truck is expected to recover from her injuries. This news is providing some relief amidst the dramatic incident.
On May 24, two individuals sustained injuries when a car executed the airborne feat. The Georgia State Patrol released a statement indicating that around 11:20 a.m., a rollback tow truck with flashing lights was parked in the left lane of U.S. 84 near the Brooks County line. The tow truck had been assisting in clearing the aftermath of a prior collision and was positioned alongside law enforcement vehicles.
Unexpectedly, a car approaching from behind collided with the truck, propelling itself onto the truck’s ramps and soaring approximately 120 feet through the air before ultimately striking another vehicle upon descent, according to the state patrol.
The driver of the airborne car, a 21-year-old woman from Tallahassee, Florida, suffered severe injuries and was transported to South Georgia Medical Center. Meanwhile, a passenger in her car, a 30-year-old man from Hahira, experienced minor injuries, as reported by authorities.
The driver remains hospitalized, but according to a Wednesday update from the state patrol, her survival is expected.
During the incident, flying debris struck a Lowndes County deputy, but fortunately, the deputy sustained only minor injuries, as confirmed by Sheriff Ashley Paulk.
Last week, Sheriff Paulk mentioned that the accident had been captured on a deputy’s body camera, leading to numerous inquiries worldwide requesting access to the video footage.
Initially, authorities had expressed concern about a potential ejected infant, as they discovered an empty car seat in the rear of the vehicle. However, subsequent investigations confirmed that there was no child present in the car at the time of the accident.
It is worth noting that Georgia enforces a law commonly referred to as the “move over law,” which mandates motorists to change lanes when approaching emergency responders on the roadways.
