Accutane is a form of Vitamin A— isotretinoin—that is used to treat severe nodular acne when other treatments have failed. Accutane works by reducing the size of the skin’s oil glands. It is taken orally every day for several months. Hoffman-La Roche first manufactured and distributed this product in 1982 but has since pulled it from the market.
Accutane can cause severe, life-threatening birth defects if taken during pregnancy. Very small doses of Accutane can affect an unborn child’s ears, eyes, face, skull, heart, and brain. Other critical side effects include inflammatory bowel disease, increased risk of suicide, and risk of serious skin reactions.
Medical side affects from taking Accutane include birth defects, IBD, Chrones Disease and Ulceritis Colitis
