valdosta GAValdosta is by far the largest southernmost city in Georgia. Being an important transportation hub, the city boasts of not only being major cross-roads but also the location of a regional airport. This means the city receives a significant number of visitors and regional travelers every year. Regardless of what brings you to Valdosta, there are lots of things that you can enjoy during your stay in this beautiful southern city.

Below are some of the activities and attractions that you ought to know of before you catch that plane or fill your tank for the upcoming road trip to the ‘Azalea City’:

Freedom Park

Dubbed “a city in the park”, Valdosta is home to over two dozen modern parks that offer all kinds of recreational equipment and facilities. Freedom Park, billed as one of the largest parks in Lowndes County, is one of the top attractions in the city that you can’t afford to miss. With eight baseball fields, a world-class golf course, a giant playground, and at least ten acres of soccer fields, the park is simply amazing. There are also hiking and walking trails, picnic areas, concessions stands, restrooms, and a dog park. On top of being a perfect all-round recreational center, Freedom Park also hosts the regional Olympic tournament and is the perfect place to catch for some action during spring.

Wild Adventures

Another feature that would be very hard to miss in Valdosta is the Wild Adventures theme park on Old Clyattville Road. Some of the highlights of this beautiful park include arcade games, unique rides, a world-class water park, a zoo, a mini-golf course, and a go-kart racing track. There are also live shows and concerts during different times of the year. The theme park admits both kids and adults and is a great place to let go of your worries and unleash your “inner child” at least every once in a while.

Turner Center for the Arts

If you only have a few minutes to spare, a quick peek at the Turner Center’s art collection can prove to be quite satisfying. Covering around 16,000 square feet, the gallery is home to a rich collection of regional and international art from different periods. This includes everything from East African art to European porcelains.

You can also check out the Grand Bay Wetland Education Center, visit Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum, or take a trip to the notoriously popular Valdosta Wake Compound for some thrilling wakeboarding action.
