Savannah, GA – Woman Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on GA-17
Savannah, GA (April 21, 2021) – At 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, April 21, a woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Savannah.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened on GA-17 around the area of Fountain Road. A woman was attempting to cross the roadway in the southbound lanes when she was struck by a passenger vehicle. The vehicle that struck her fled the scene.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were called to the scene. The female pedestrian was pronounced dead due to traumatic injuries.
The driver involved in the accident parked his car behind a business close to the scene and was taken to his house. The suspect’s sister-in-law called the police, who picked up the suspect and drove him back to the crash scene. He admitted that he struck the woman and fled. He has since been arrested on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving while unlicensed.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
