6/7 Monroe, GA – Child Struck by Vehicle in Pedestrian Accident on E Spring St

Savannah, GA (April 22, 2021) – Around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, April 21, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred at an intersection in Savannah.

According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of US-17 and Fountain Road. Police confirmed that a pedestrian, who has since been identified as a 43-year-old woman, was walking in the area when she was struck by a passenger vehicle. The driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene.

The driver, who has since been identified as a 45-year-old man, parked his vehicle behind a nearby business and went home. A relative called the police on him and police arrived at his home to make an arrest. He admitted to the hit-and-run and was charged with hit-and-run resulting in death, as well as failing to report an accident.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian was tragically pronounced deceased due to traumatic injuries.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
