Savannah, GA – Thomas Biele Killed in Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Elam Rd
Savannah, GA (August 4, 2022) – A police officer was killed in a fatal motorcycle accident that took place in Savannah on Thursday, July 28.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened around 8 a.m. on Elam Road. Police confirmed that a Fort Stewart Department of Defense officer was on a motorcycle and attempting to make a left turn at the intersection of Elam Road and State Route 196. The motorcycle collided with a passenger vehicle due to reasons that are still under investigation. The officer was struck so forcefully that he was thrown onto the road.
Several emergency responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately called to the scene to help those in need. The police officer, identified as 54-year-old Thomas Biele, was tragically pronounced dead after being rushed to Liberty Regional Medical Center. The other driver was not hurt but remained at the scene.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for some time following the crash. Police have not brought any charges against the driver of the passenger vehicle at this time.
