Savannah, GA – One Person Killed in Fatal Collision on I-16
Savannah, GA (July 23, 2021) – On Friday morning, July 23, one person was killed in a fatal collision on a highway in Savannah.
According to the Georgia Highway Patrol, the crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-16 around the area of I-516. A vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction on the highway when it collided head-on with another vehicle. The forceful collision led to extensive damages to the involved vehicles.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately called to the scene. One person, who has not yet been identified, was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. One person was transported to the hospital with injuries, though their condition is not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in all eastbound lanes of traffic until police were able to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
