Savannah, GA – Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash at MLK Jr Blvd & 38th St
Savannah, GA (June 17, 2021) – On Wednesday evening, June 16, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash in Savannah.
Authorities say that the search continues for the suspect involved after the deadly pedestrian-involved crash, which happened at the intersection of West 38th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Savannah.
Officers with the Georgia State Patrol’s specialized collision reconstruction team are investigating but said that the driver, a 37-year-old man, is facing several charges once he is located.
GSP officials say that troopers stopped a car for failure to maintain the lane. They then performed a field sobriety test and determined the driver was under the influence of drugs. When they tried to arrest the suspect, he fled the scene on foot, got back into his car, and drove off.
A police chase ensued, and the driver struck a 56-year-old Savannah man who was in the crosswalk at 38th Street. Paramedics were dispatched, but it appears that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers later called off the chase when they lost sight of the suspect, though they’re still looking for the man who caused the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.

This is due to the fact that pedestrians have no protection from harm, which means that they are likely to become seriously injured or even killed in an accident. Every year, hundreds of pedestrians are killed in accidents throughout Georgia. In just 2018 alone, it was reported that approximately 260 pedestrians were killed in collisions due to the reckless acts of others.
