Savannah, GA – Man Killed in Boating Accident on Intracoastal Waterway

Savannah, GA (May 5, 2022) – On Thursday morning, May 5, a man was killed in a boating accident that took place on a waterway in Savannah.

Savannah Police confirmed that the incident happened in the early morning hours on the Intracoastal Waterway near the area of the Savannah Yacht Club. Three men were on a 28-foot boat at the time of the incident. The boat suddenly struck a marker in the area due to reasons that are not yet known, extensively damaging the boat.

Several responders who deal with boating accidents were called to the scene to assist. A 62-year-old passenger on the boat sustained a severe head injury in the accident and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two other men who were on the boat, including the operator, did not have injuries in the accident. The men spoke with police and confirmed that they were out for a fishing trip at the time of the incident.

The area was blocked for an extended period of time after the collision.

At this time, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources continues their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
