Savannah, GA – Hit-and-Run CAT Bus Accident on Wheaton St
Savannah, GA (July 19, 2022) – On Monday evening, July 18, a hit-and-run CAT bus took place on a roadway in Savannah.
Savannah Police confirmed that the accident happened on Wheaton Street in the evening hours. A white cargo van was traveling in the area when it made contact with a CAT bus due to reasons that are not yet known. The driver of the bus immediately swerved out of the way and came to a stop in Blackshear Park. The occupants inside the van then got out of their vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Occupants inside the CAT bus, who have not yet been identified, sustained injuries as a result of the crash. The parties were treated and then taken to local hospitals for further treatment.
Due to the severity of the collision, a portion of the road was blocked in the area for some time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible. It is not known if the driver or passengers inside the van were caught by police.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
