Savannah, GA (July 25, 2022) – Four people sustained injuries in a severe pedestrian accident that took place in Savannah on Saturday evening, July 23.

According to Savannah Police Department officials, the accident happened around 6 p.m. in Ellis Square. Police confirmed that a 77-year-old was driving a Ford F-150 in the area and leaving the Whitaker Parking Garage. He suddenly accelerated in his vehicle, causing it to enter the square and strike several pedestrians. The driver then came to a stop up against a stone wall.

Several Savannah responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A total of four people sustained injuries as a result of the accident. Police confirmed that a 38-year-old male and his 7-year-old daughter were hospitalized with serious injuries and remain there. Another 7-year-old pedestrian has since been released from the hospital. A 67-year-old woman who was a passenger in the pickup truck was also treated for minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for some time. Police were able to determine that the accident was not intentional in nature.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
