Savannah, GA – Fatal Bicycle Accident on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd
Savannah, GA (June 5, 2021) – At 10:45 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, June 4, a fatal bicycle accident occurred on a roadway in Savannah.
According to the Savannah Police Department, the accident happened on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around the area of 34th Street. Police confirmed that a Savannah man was riding his bicycle in the area when he was suddenly struck by a pickup truck as he crossed the road. After being hit the first time, the bicyclist was thrown from his bike and struck by another vehicle, being dragged for several blocks.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist. The bicyclist, identified as a 66-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead due to traumatic injuries.
The drivers of both vehicles, identified as a 75-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, remained at the scene to cooperate with the police.
The investigation into the accident continues.
