Rome, GA – Two Killed and Two Injured in Construction Accident on Old Dalton Rd
Rome, GA (June 15, 2022) – On Tuesday morning, June 14, two people were killed in a construction accident that took place in Rome.
According to Rome officials, the accident happened on Old Dalton Road about half a mile up a driveway. Investigators claim that the construction workers were working on a private driveway replacement project when a worker went to pick up more asphalt. It is believed that the brakes on his construction truck failed and the truck started to move forward. It came into contact with a Bobcat, causing the Bobcat to fall about 50 feet down an embankment into the woods off the side of the road.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene. Two construction workers who were inside the Bobcat, identified as a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims were seriously injured and hospitalized, though their conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked off in the area of the accident for an extended period of time. It took several hours to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues at this time.
