Rome, GA – Pedestrian Accident Involving Child on Alabama Hwy
Rome, GA (December 10, 2021) – Around 1 a.m. on Friday morning, December 10, a pedestrian accident occurred in Rome.
According to police, the accident happened on Alabama Highway around the area of Blankenship Place and the local movie theater. A 4-year-old child was crossing the street at the time when an adult attempted to catch the child. However, they were struck by a Hyundai Elantra traveling west. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 34-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not injured.
Police later discovered that the child was staying with a family at a local inn and his guardians were unaware that he got away. The child was rushed to Floyd Medical Center and has been listed in serious condition.
Due to the severity of the accident, multiple lanes of traffic were blocked in the area for a period of time. Police confirmed that the driver of the Elantra is not yet being charged for their role in the accident.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in Georgia
Pedestrian accidents are known for being some of the most severe accidents on our roads. This is due to the fact that pedestrians have no protection from harm in the event of an accident. Many pedestrians are seriously injured in these accidents and others lose their lives. Children are some of the most at-risk parties on our roads due to the fact that they are not always aware of the dangers of the roads before them. In 2018 alone, it was reported that approximately 260 pedestrians were killed and many others were injured in these accidents. If you have been hurt in a pedestrian accident that is not your fault, you should speak with an attorney that you can trust.
