Plainville, GA – Bicycle Hit-and-Run Crash at Hwy 53 & Brownlee Mtn Rd
Plainville, GA (February 7, 2022) – Injuries were reported in a bicycle hit-and-run crash that took place at an intersection in Plainville on Saturday evening, February 5.
According to local officials, the accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 53 and Brownlee Mountain Road. A bicyclist was traveling in the area when they were suddenly struck by an older orange dump truck. Police believe that the truck was hauling short logs in the back. The driver of the truck immediately fled the scene without stopping.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The bicyclist, who has not yet been formally identified, was seriously injured as a result. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The intersection was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene. Police did not say if they have identified the driver of the truck or made any arrests at this time.
