Oglethorpe, GA – Elderly Man Injured in House Fire on GA-26
Oglethorpe, GA (August 11, 2021) – On Wednesday, August 11, a house fire took place in Oglethorpe that led to injuries in one person.
According to officials, the fire broke out in a home on GA-26. Fire crews arrived at the scene to find the house engulfed in flames. Bystanders told fire crews that they believed a person was trapped inside the home. They forced entry into the back bedroom window and found an elderly man inside the home who was handicapped. They pulled the man out to safety.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were called to the scene. The elderly victim was taken to a burn center by medical helicopter for serious injuries. It is believed that he sustained smoke inhalation injuries.
The area was blocked for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
