Oakwood, GA – Fatal Pedestrian Crash Involving Train Near Railroad St
Oakwood, GA (July 5, 2022) – One person was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that involved a train and took place in Oakwood on Monday night, July 4.
According to Oakwood Police, the accident happened around 8:20 p.m. on the railroad tracks around the area of Railroad Street and Tara Drive. A pedestrian was walking in the area and started to cross the train tracks. The train saw the pedestrian at the last minute and let out of a warning sound but was unable to stop in time. The train struck the pedestrian and then came to an abrupt stop.
Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody on the train was hurt in the crash.
The area was blocked near the accident for an extended period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
