Newnan, GA – Distracted Driving Rollover Crash at GA-16 & Ashley Woods Dr
Newnan, GA (November 23, 2021) – At 5 p.m. on the evening of Monday, November 22, a distracted driving rollover crash occurred in Newnan.
According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of GA-16 and Ashley Woods Drive. A driver was traveling in a Hyundai Elantra headed east when the driver went around a curve in the road. The vehicle went off the side of the road where it struck a tree and overturned. The vehicle was badly damaged as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. A passenger who was in the back of the vehicle was ejected through the rear window onto the roadway. He was badly injured and airlifted to the hospital for treatment. An infant was also in the vehicle and taken to the hospital for an evaluation. The driver and another passenger sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as an 18-year-old woman. She has since been cited for failing to maintain her lane and distracted driving.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes for a period of time after the accident.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
