Monroe, GA – Update: Injuries Reported in Dump Truck Crash on Unisia Dr
Monroe, GA (December 19, 2021) – On Friday, December 17, one person was injured in a serious dump truck crash in Monroe. The party has since been identified by police.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened on Unisia Drive at Highway 83. A dump truck was traveling in the area when the driver lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to a failed tire. This caused the vehicle to strike a Mitsubishi head-on. The Mitsubishi then went off the side of the road and down an embankment while the dump truck overturned on the roadway.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as a 28-year-old man, was transported to Piedmont Athens with serious injuries. The driver of the dump truck, identified as a 56-year-old Monroe man, was not hurt in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene. Police confirmed that the driver of the dump truck will be receiving charges.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
