Monroe, GA – Update: Injuries in DUI Accident at GA-10 & Edmondson Rd
Monroe, GA (April 28, 2021) – Around 9:40 p.m. on Monday night, April 26, injuries were reported following a DUI accident in Monroe.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened at the intersection of GA-10 and Edmondson Road. A 61-year-old man from Athens was traveling east in the wrong lane of traffic when he struck a Toyota Camry head-on. The Toyota, driven by a 34-year-old man from Athens, was struck on the left side by a third vehicle. The third vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old woman, was then pushed into a fourth vehicle driven by a 20-year-old man.
The 34-year-old man and the 61-year-old driver were both injured as a result of the crash. They were taken to Piedmont Walton with various injuries.
Police confirmed that the wrong-way driver was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. He has since been charged with driving on a suspended driver’s license, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and more.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
