Monroe, GA – Head-on Collision Following Car Chase on I-20
Monroe, GA (June 29, 2021) – Around 2 p.m. on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 29, a head-on collision occurred on a highway in Monroe.
According to officials, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-20 around the area of mile marker 99. Georgia State Patrol officials confirmed that a driver was fleeing from police in the area when the vehicle slammed into another vehicle head-on. This caused both of the vehicles to catch on fire.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. One or more victims were injured in the accident and were hospitalized as a result, though their conditions are not yet known.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was completely shut down in multiple lanes. This led to delays in the area for some time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
