Marietta, GA – Officer Injured in DUI Car Accident in NB Lanes of I-75
Marietta, GA (July 25, 2021) – At 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, July 24, an officer was injured in a DUI accident in Marietta.
According to the Marietta Police Department, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-75 around the area of Roswell Road. Three officers were pulled over in the area after an accident occurred that was unrelated. One of the officers got out of his vehicle when an impaired driver suddenly struck the cruiser, slamming it into another cruiser. A patrol officer was in the second cruiser filling out paperwork at the time.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The officer who was filling out paperwork was treated at the scene due to minor injuries. The driver who caused the accident became unconscious at the scene and was revived with Narcan. He was transported to the hospital and will face charges for driving under the influence.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes for a period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
