Marietta, GA – Benancio Lasarte Killed in Pedestrian Accident on S Marietta Pkwy
Marietta, GA (October 13, 2022) – On Tuesday night, October 11, a man was killed in a pedestrian accident that took place on a major roadway in Marietta.
According to Marietta Police, the accident happened during the night hours on the South Marietta Parkway around the area of the Marietta Park and Ride Lot. Police confirmed that a male pedestrian was walking in the area when he started to walk across the street in a marked crosswalk. Suddenly, he was struck by a man in a Nissan Murano who was allegedly speeding at the time. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as 58-year-old Benancio Lasarte, was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with traumatic injuries. He was tragically pronounced dead while there.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 64-year-old Leopoldo Castillo, was not hurt in the accident. It is not known if he received any charges.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it is available.
