Macon, GA – Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident at 3000 Mercer University Dr
Macon, GA (May 21, 2021) – On Thursday evening, May 20, a fatal hit-and-run accident occurred on a highway in Atlanta, leaving one pedestrian dead.
Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol are currently investigating the incident, which also involved a Bibb County Deputy accidentally running over the deceased pedestrian after responding to the scene around 9:00 p.m.
The man was reportedly killed in a hit-and-run accident at 3000 Mercer University Drive. The victim, who was lying on the ground, was then hit by a Bibb County patrol vehicle.
Cpl. Emmett Bivens said that the deputy didn’t see the body on the ground and then ran the victim over a second time. The victim, identified as a 64-year-old man, was reportedly deceased before being hit a second time.
Community EMS officials, as well as the coroner’s office, are working to confirm the reports. In the meantime, officers say they are looking for a dark-colored sedan that initially hit the victim and fled the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
