Lithonia, GA – Passenger Killed in Fatal Accident on Lithonia Industrial Blvd
Lithonia, GA (August 1, 2021) – Around 11:25 a.m. on Sunday, August 1, a passenger was killed in a fatal accident at a Lithonia intersection.
According to deputies, the accident happened at the intersection of Lithonia Industrial Boulevard and Old Hillandale Drive. The crash occurred as a result of a pursuit. Police confirmed that a 30-year-old male driver was being pursued by police in a Volkswagen when he drove onto I-20. He exited the highway in a reckless manner and was headed toward the area of the Lithonia Industrial and Old Hillandale intersection. Suddenly, the front of the Passat collided with the front side of a Ford pickup truck towing a Ford Explorer. The force of the accident caused the Volkswagen to overturn.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The right rear passenger in the Volkswagen, who has been identified only as an adult female, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen and a 31-year-old female passenger were seriously injured. The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.
Police confirmed that the driver of the Volkswagen will be facing charges.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
