Lawrenceville, GA (November 22, 2021) – Around 9 p.m. on Saturday night, November 20, a house fire took place in Lawrenceville that led to charges.

According to Gwinnett County officials, the incident took place in a home on Highgate Drive. A woman called fire officials and stated that her husband set something on fire inside a bedroom. The woman safely brought her children and mother-in-law out of the home. Fire crews went inside the home and put out the fire while the home filled with smoke.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. Two firefighters, who have not yet been identified, were injured in the fire. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Fire crews spoke with the man who was inside the home and he confessed to starting the fire. He has since received charges of felony arson and domestic violence.

The area was blocked off for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the incident continues.
