Lake Lanier, GA – Six Injured in Boating Accident at Lake Lanier & Lanier Islands
Lake Lanier, GA (May 9, 2021) – Six people, including two teenagers, sustained serious injuries on Sunday afternoon, May 9, after a boating accident occurred on Lake Lanier.
Officials said that a 16-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were both flown to Grady Memorial Hospital following the incident, which happened near Margaritaville at Lanier Islands around 2:30 p.m. Officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources added that a 39-year-old woman was also taken to Grady Memorial by Hall County fire rescue.
The accident happened as the boat was refueling at the gas docks at the Port of Indecision, DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon said. The boat reportedly exploded and was fully ablaze when first responders arrived at the scene.
Another dock caught fire, and three more people were injured as a result.
Crews managed to put out the fire. However, police continue their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident and have not released further details.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
