Gainesville, GA – Children Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on Athens Hwy
Gainesville, GA (August 26, 2021) – On Wednesday morning, August 25, numerous victims were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Gainesville.
According to police, the accident happened on the Athens Highway around the area of Priest Circle. A tow truck was driving in the area when the driver confirmed that he became distracted and went into the other lane of traffic. His vehicle struck another being driven by a 29-year-old woman. The second vehicle rotated and slammed into a guardrail. Debris from the accident then struck a third vehicle, which was not badly damaged.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. Multiple victims inside the passenger vehicle were injured. These included the 29-year-old driver, a 4-year-old child, and a 12-year-old child. The 46-year-old driver of the tow truck was injured in the accident as well.
The roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time as police cleared the scene.
Police have since confirmed that the driver of the tow truck received numerous charges. These include failing to maintain his lane, driving distracted, and not wearing a seatbelt.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
