Forsyth, GA – Deputy Injured in Pursuit-Related Crash in SB Lanes of I-75
Forsyth, GA (March 17, 2022) – On Wednesday afternoon, March 16, a deputy sustained injuries in a crash following a pursuit in Forsyth.
According to Monroe County officials, the accident happened on I-75 around the area of exit 181, Rumble Road. Around 3:39 p.m., deputies attempted to pull over the driver of a vehicle in a traffic stop. However, the driver took off in a pursuit that ended in a deputy’s cruiser crashing. The accident led to extensive damages to the cruiser, which was seen with smoke coming out of the hood. The other involved vehicle also sustained severe damages.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The involved deputy suffered from a broken foot and his deputy K9 was also injured in the accident. The injured parties are both listed in stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle who caused the pursuit initially ran from the scene but was soon caught by police. He was taken into custody on multiple charges. These include felony fleeing and eluding an officer, as well as other outstanding warrants.
The roadway was blocked in several southbound lanes of traffic for hours as police worked to clear the scene. This led to extensive delays in the area.
