Emerson, GA – Man Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on I-75
Emerson, GA (December 31, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place on the morning of Saturday, December 31.
According to Emerson Police Department officials, the accident happened around 11:43 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75 around the area of ramp 85. Police confirmed that a red GMC pickup truck was traveling south in the area while a black Ford F-250 with a camper was parked on the shoulder of the highway. The driver of the Ford was outside of his vehicle so that he could check on his camper when, suddenly, the driver and his truck were struck by the driver in the GMC. The red GMC then continued south, where it crossed over the median and came to a rest.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Emerson responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Ford, identified as a 56-year-old man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries caused by the accident.
Police confirmed that the driver of the red GMC was arrested following the accident. The driver was identified as a 38-year-old woman who was charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, and failing to maintain her lane.
The roadway was blocked completely until the scene was cleared.
