Dry Branch, GA – Semi-Truck Collision Injures One Driver on I-16
Dry Branch, GA (June 22, 2022) – Injuries were reported in one individual involved in a semi-truck accident in Dry Branch on Wednesday evening, June 22.
According to Twiggs County officials, the accident happened after 8 p.m. on I-16. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling in the right lane in a semi-truck when their vehicle experienced a blow-out of one of its tires. This caused it to slam into a semi-truck in the left lane. The truck that was struck by the first then lost control and went into a creek between two bridges, where it overturned.
Several local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Fire crews had to extricate the driver of the second semi-truck from their vehicle. After the unidentified victim was cut out, they were rushed to a local hospital by medical helicopter for treatment of serious injuries. It is not believed that the other driver was injured, though they remained on the scene.
The roadway was blocked in most lanes of traffic in the area until police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing. Police will update with more information as it is available.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victim with hopes of a speedy recovery.
