Douglas, GA – Two Injured in CSX Intermodal Train Derailment Accident
Douglas, GA (February 8, 2022) – On Monday afternoon, February 7, two people were injured in a train derailment accident in Douglas.
According to officials, the accident happened around 1 p.m. in an unidentified area of Douglas. A semi-truck driver was traveling in the area when their vehicle became stuck on railroad tracks. The driver got out and allegedly went to seek help when a CSX Intermodal train coming through the area was unable to stop. The train, including two locomotives and 39 cars, struck the semi-truck. One of the locomotives and several of the cars derailed from the track, which led to extensive damages.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crash. Two members on the train, who were the only individuals on it at the time, were injured. The members were taken to the hospital for treatment but they are expected to be okay.
The area has been blocked since the accident. Crews said that it would take several days to completely clear the train and the railroad tracks in that area.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
