Demorest, GA – Two Injured in Car Crash Near River on Habersham Mills Rd

Demorest, GA (May 10, 2023) – Around 2:00 p.m. on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 9, two people sustained injuries in a Demorest vehicle collision.

According to Habersham County officials, the accident happened on Habersham Mills Road around the area of the Soquee River. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling in the area when they lost control of their vehicle due to reasons that are not entirely known. The vehicle went off the road, tumbling about 65 feet until it landed just short of the river and Habersham Mills Dam. The vehicle was left with extensive damage due to the accident.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Crews had to cut the top off of the vehicle so that they could reach the two people inside. The victims were then pulled back up the hill by a rope system. Both the driver and the passenger, who have not yet been formally identified, were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for several hours as police worked to clear the scene. This led to delays until police fully cleared the area.

No further details have been released, but the investigation remains ongoing.
