Decatur, GA – Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-85 Near Flat Shoals Rd
Decatur, GA (August 1, 2021) – At 7:55 p.m. on the evening of Friday, July 30, a multi-vehicle collision took place on a highway in Decatur.
According to officials, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-85 around the area of exit 66, Flat Shoals Road and Buffington Road. Several vehicles were traveling in the area when they collided with each other due to unknown reasons. One of the vehicles involved, identified as a black SUV, had extensive front-end damage. The vehicles involved in the accident had to be towed from the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those with injuries. One or more victims, who have not yet been identified, were taken to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Their conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police urged those in the area to use Highway 29 as an alternate route.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
