Decatur, GA – Man Killed in Fatal Truck Accident on Candler Rd
Decatur, GA (August 19, 2021) – On Wednesday night, August 18, a man was killed in a fatal truck accident in Decatur.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of Candler Road around the area of I-985. A 41-year-old man was driving a Peterbilt tractor-trailer and a Ford F-350 was traveling in the left lane around 7 p.m. The commercial vehicle’s tire failed, causing it to veer into the other lane and strike the Ford F-350. The commercial vehicle then went down an embankment off the side of the road.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the tractor-trailer, as well as his passenger, were both extricated from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer then passed away at the hospital. The driver of the Ford, identified as a 36-year-old man, was treated at the scene.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for some time until police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
