Decatur, GA – FedEx Driver Killed in Fatal Truck Accident on I-285
Decatur, GA (April 30, 2022) – A FedEx driver was killed in a fatal truck accident that took place on a highway in Decatur on Saturday morning, April 30.
According to DeKalb County officials, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-285 around the area of US-78 at 2:01 a.m. A tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles were allegedly involved in the accident. For reasons that are not yet known, the collision involving these vehicles caused the tractor-trailer to leave the road, where it then caught on fire. The accident caused extensive damage to the involved vehicles.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the truck, identified as a male in his 50s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. His dog was also killed in the accident.
Due to the severity of the accident, a large portion of the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident remains ongoing. Police will update with more information as it is available.
