Danville, GA – Driver Killed in Fatal Tractor-Trailer Collision on I-16
Danville, GA (September 14, 2022) – A driver was killed in a fatal tractor-trailer accident that took place on a highway in Danville on Wednesday morning, September 14.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened around 5:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-16 around the area of mile marker 32. A semi-truck was parked in the emergency lane of traffic after the driver experienced mechanical issues. Another tractor-trailer was traveling in the area when the driver suddenly slammed into the back of the parked truck due to unknown reasons. The second truck burst into flames and came to a stop.
Several local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Police confirmed that the driver of the second truck was able to get out of the truck that was on fire but was pronounced deceased at the scene soon after. It is not known if anyone else was hurt in the accident.
All westbound lanes of traffic were blocked for several hours. Police had the scene completely cleared of all debris and vehicles by 5 p.m.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
