Yet, new research has found that testosterone treatments for men could cause an increased risk of stroke, heart attack or even death. Recent studies show that men undergoing testosterone therapy were more likely to suffer a stroke, heart attack or die, compared to healthy men who were not taking testosterone supplements. Specifically, studies published by BioMed Central, PLOS One, the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association, together show that testosterone therapy can result in an increased risk of:

· Heart attack
· Stroke
· Transient Ischemic Attacks (“TIA”)
· Pulmonary Embolism
· Deep Vein Thrombosis
· Blood Clots
· Coronary Artery Disease
· Death

These recent studies have prompted the FDA to further investigate the safety of testosterone therapy medications. The FDA investigation is currently underway.

The FDA and the authors of recent studies recommend that physicians exercise more caution in prescribing testosterone therapy.
