Commerce, GA – Man Killed in Head-on Collision on Homer Rd
Commerce, GA (December 22, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal head-on collision that took place on a roadway in Commerce on Wednesday, December 21.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened on Homer Road. Police confirmed that a 71-year-old man from Watkinsville was driving his green Honda CRV and following a black Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver of the Tahoe, identified as a 37-year-old woman, slowed down quickly so that she could make a left turn. At the same time, the CRV and a Ford U-Haul box truck collided with each other head-on. This caused the CRV to overturn, leading to extensive damages.
Several local responders, including Commerce paramedics and fire crews, were called to the scene to help those in need. The 71-year-old driver of the CRV was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic as police worked to clear the scene. This led to delays for some time.
No further details have been released, but the investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim who lost their life in this accident.
