Columbus, GA – Woman Killed in Fatal Head-on Crash on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd
Columbus, GA (October 20, 2022) – A woman was killed in a fatal head-on collision that took place this past week in Columbus at an intersection around 7:35 p.m.
Police confirmed that the accident happened in the evening hours one night this past week at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Shepherd Drive. Police confirmed that a 64-year-old woman was dropping off a friend in the area when her vehicle was suddenly struck by a driver in a Dodge Ram pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck was traveling in the wrong lane at the time of the crash, causing them to strike each other head-on. The vehicles sustained severe damages as a result of the crash.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were called to the scene to help those in need. The 64-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital but was tragically pronounced deceased on the morning of October 19. It is not known if anyone else was hurt in the accident.
The driver of the pickup truck was later found to be under the influence at the time of the crash. He has since been arrested for serious injury by vehicle, hit-and-run, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, open container, and more.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
