Cobb, GA - Six Injured in Truck Accident on S Atlanta & Plant Atkinson Rds

Cobb, GA (July 4, 2021) – A truck accident involving injuries occurred near the Chattahoochee River in south Cobb on Wednesday afternoon, June 30.

The multi-car crash occurred less than a mile west of the Chattahoochee River. Cobb County Police Officer S.A. Barner said that a 62-year-old Smyrna resident was traveling northbound on South Atlanta Road in a gray 2007 Chrysler van. For unknown reasons, he attempted to make a left turn onto Plant Atkinson Road and turned in front of a red 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by a 37-year-old woman from Atlanta.

The Corolla struck the man’s vehicle, sending it into the path of a gray 2013 Mazda 6 traveling northbound. The van was then pushed to the shoulder in the southwest corner of the intersection, colliding with a white 2019 Freightliner M2 that was pulling into the left turn lane on South Atlanta Road.

The 62-year-old man driving the Chrysler was transported with life-threatening injuries by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Police said that the woman complained of chest pain and had a visible injury to her left shoulder and was treated at the scene. The driver of the Mazda, identified only as a 30-year-old man, said he had leg pain but refused medical attention.

The driver of the Freightliner, a 24-year-old man, and his two passengers, a 33-year-old man and a 25-year-old man from Cedartown, sustained only minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact investigators.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Truck Accidents in Georgia

Cobb, GA - Six Injured in Truck Accident on S Atlanta & Plant Atkinson RdsOne of the most severe, catastrophic types of accidents on Georgia roads, tractor-trailer wrecks can result in tragic consequences. Due to the fact that trucks are some of the largest vehicles on our roads, those in smaller vehicles, including passenger cars and motorcyclists, are at increased risk of serious injury or death in a truck accident.

Unfortunately, the Peach State averages nearly 250 fatal truck accidents annually, accounting for almost 15% of total motor vehicle crash fatalities statewide. Though truck drivers are trained to be some of the safest drivers on our roadways, they or their heavy-duty equipment can still spell disaster for other motorists.

Mistakes happen in the blink of an eye. Whether a truck crash is caused by brake failure, driver error, DUI, tight deadlines, or faulty equipment, big-rigs present a unique risk and danger to many motorists on the road. Not only can these accidents involving truck tires and other debris cause serious damage to other vehicles, but they are also responsible for a large portion of motor vehicle fatalities overall.

If you have suffered injuries due to a truck accident, you have options and should seek the immediate help of an attorney.

Being injured in a Georgia truck accident might be one of the most challenging things that you have ever endured. Because truck drivers spend a long period of time on our roads, they are more likely to fall asleep at the wheel or drive distracted, leading to devastating collisions and critical injuries. For example, when a truck driver loses control and causes an accident, their tractor-trailer may collide with numerous other passenger vehicles, forcing them off of the highway as well. Thankfully, injured victims and their families can seek the immediate help of a Georgia personal injury attorney.

Our goal at Kenneth S. Nugent, PC is to serve our clients diligently and compassionately, stopping at nothing to secure justice for victims and their families.
