Clarkesville, GA (July 12, 2021) – At 9:47 p.m. on the night of Sunday, July 11, two people were injured in a car accident in Clarkesville.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened on GA-17. A driver was traveling in the area when they lost control due to unknown reasons, driving down an embankment and rolling. The vehicle stopped when it slammed into the tree line.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately called to the scene. The male driver and the male passenger, who has not yet been officially identified, were both seriously injured. The victims were rushed to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, though their conditions are not yet known.

Due to the severity of the accident, both lanes of the highway were blocked for approximately one hour.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
