Clarkesville, GA (July 28, 2021) – At 5:40 p.m. on the evening of July 26, a rear-end accident injured three victims in Clarksville.

According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of GA-17 and GA-105. Georgia State Patrol officials confirmed that a 71-year-old man was driving his Land Rover south near the intersection when the vehicle slammed into the Toyota Avalon in front of him. The Avalon, driven by an 80-year-old man, went off the road and struck a road sign before it landed in the embankment. The Land Rover continued onward and went into a ditch.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other local responders were dispatched to the scene. The 80-year-old and his passenger, an 85-year-old woman, were injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment. The 71-year-old driver was airlifted to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Their conditions are not yet known.

The roadway was blocked in multiple lanes for some time until police cleared the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
