Calhoun, GA – Dustin Thomas Killed in ATV Accident Involving High-Speed Chase on GA-53
Calhoun, GA (May 18, 2022) – Police confirmed that a man was killed in a fatal ATV accident that took place in Calhoun following a high-speed chase.
The Georgia State Patrol confirmed that the accident happened around 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night, May 17. Bartow County deputies were allegedly pursuing a gray Nissan Titan in the eastbound lanes of GA-53. The deputy finally caught up to the Nissan and started to initiate a PIT maneuver. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Joshua Eaker of Tennessee, traveled at a high rate of speed into a ditch where the vehicle collided with an ATV and its rider.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the ATV, identified as 48-year-old Dustin Thomas of Calhoun, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries caused by the collision. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in all lanes for an extended period of time following the accident. Police quickly worked to clear the scene so traffic could return to normal.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident remains ongoing.
