Brunswick, GA – O’Neal Thompson Killed in Fatal Truck Collision on I-95
Brunswick, GA (September 13, 2022) – A truck driver was killed in a fatal truck accident that took place on a Brunswick highway on Friday night, September 9.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened on I-95 around the area of mile marker 39. Police confirmed that a semi-truck was traveling in the southbound lanes when it rear-ended another semi-truck that came to a stop on the highway due to unknown reasons. The driver of the semi-truck that was unable to stop in time was thrown from their cab and onto the road.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver who was thrown onto the road, identified as O’Neal Thompson of Florida, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The other truck driver was injured and taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
Police later determined that the truck was stopped on the highway because of a prior accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it is available.
