Blackshear, GA – Fatal Accident at Lee St Resource Ctr Under Investigation
Blackshear, GA (August 30, 2021) – A young girl in Blackshear, just outside of Waycross, was killed on Sunday evening, August 29, in an accident.
The 5-year-old girl was killed when a monument fell on top of her. Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright said the girl was playing with her sister at the Lee Street Resource Center around 7:45 p.m. when the incident occurred.
The children were playing on a stone monument in front of a flag pole when the monument suddenly fell on the girl, crushing her.
She was rushed to the hospital via ambulance by paramedics. The girl was later flown to a children’s hospital in Jacksonville, where she died early Monday morning, August 30.
It’s unclear if the other child suffered serious injuries, though she was evaluated at the scene by EMS.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Officers have not released details about the property owner or any pending fines.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family. We hope for their full recovery.

In fact, it was reported that approximately 200 people were killed last year. These victims died due to fatal premises liability accidents caused by the reckless acts of others. Plus, thousands of others are hospitalized every year after sustaining injuries on someone else’s property.
If you have been injured in a premises liability accident that may have occurred as a result of negligence on the part of the property owner, it is essential that you speak with a premises liability attorney in Blackshear.
The unfortunate reality is that many of these accidents can be prevented but continue to occur in Georgia every year. However, if you can show another party is liable for your personal injury, you can file a premises liability injury claim in Blackshear.
