Barnesville, GA (October 15, 2022) – Two people were killed in a fatal car accident that took place on a highway in Barnesville on Friday evening, October 14.

According to Butts County officials, the accident happened around 7:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of GA-36. A couple was in their vehicle headed to Thomaston for an Upson-Lee and Jackson football game when the vehicle was struck by another due to reasons that are not entirely known. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged in the accident.

Several Barnesville officials, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Two people inside the vehicle were tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. The parties have since been identified as 34-year-old Kevin Sims and 35-year-old Christian Sims. It is not known if anyone else in the accident sustained injuries.

The roadway was blocked in several eastbound lanes of traffic for an hour or more as police worked to clear the scene.

The Georgia State Patrol continues its investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
