Avondale Estates, GA – 12 Hurt in Prison Transport Bus Crash on Covington Hwy at Ashton Pl
Avondale Estates, GA (July 13, 2022) – A prison transport bus and the driver of a sedan collided on Wednesday afternoon, July 13, leaving several hurt.
On Wednesday afternoon, a prison transport bus transporting eleven convicts to the DeKalb County courtroom crashed in Avondale Estates.
The incident occurred on Covington Highway near Ashton Place. According to Avondale police, the accident occurred while the bus was driving from the DeKalb County Detention Center to the courtroom and struck the driver of a passenger sedan. Both cars sustained damage to the front ends.
Per the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the vehicle and the convicts were transported back to the jail for triage.
The sedan driver was transferred by medical personnel to a nearby hospital. However, according to DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Akies, there were no life-threatening injuries.
The accident resulted in the closure of roadways for many hours as police investigated and cleared the site.
