Augusta, GA – Woman Killed in Fatal Camper Fire on Tobacco Rd
Augusta, GA (October 6, 2021) – On Tuesday, October 5, a woman died after a fatal camper fire that happened in Augusta.
According to Richmond County Police, the accident happened at 2300 Tobacco Road. A woman was living behind a house in a camper when it suddenly caught on fire due to reasons that are not yet known. When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found that smoke and fire were coming out of the camper. They worked to rescue a woman who was allegedly inside the camper.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The woman, identified as a local 79-year-old, received burns due to the fire and was taken to the Joseph M. Still Burn Unit for treatment. Unfortunately, she passed away from her injuries while there.
The area was blocked for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene. It took fire crews some time to bring the fire under control.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the fire remains ongoing.
